Summary of the Focus Study for the
Reading Focus Card (May 2007)
In May of 2007, a focus study was conducted at St. Simon School in St. Louis, Missouri, with
2 different groups of students:
- Group 1 » Resource center students (ages 7-13) with suspected or diagnosed reading and/or learning disabilities
- Group 2 » Sixth grade students (general population, ages 11-12) with no known and with no diagnosed learning disabilities
Results from Group 1
It was concluded that of those students suspected or diagnosed
with reading and/or other learning disabilities:
- The majority experienced strong improvement in the
quality of their reading focus and comprehension
when using the Reading Focus Card.
- Nearly all of these students experienced
at least some improvement in these two areas
when using the tool.
Results from Group 2
It was determined in the focus study that approximately
10% of the general student population in a regular classroom
(with no known/diagnosed learning disabilities) experienced
at least some benefits when using the Reading Focus Card.
